SPECIAL TOPIC: THE HOUR (NT)

The term "hour" has several connotations in the Gospels.

1. chronological time ‒ Matt. 8:13; 26:40; Luke 7:21; John 1:39; 4:6,52,53; 11:9; 16:21; 19:14,27
2. the beginning of Jesus' ministry ‒ John 2:4; 4:23
3. the new age of the Spirit (i.e., Jesus' incarnation and ministry) ‒ John 4:21,23; 5:25,28
4. persecution of believers ‒ Matt. 10:19; Mark 13:11; Luke 12:12
5. the last days of Jesus' earthly ministry (i.e., Passion Week) ‒ Matt. 26:45; Mark 14:35,41; John 2:4; 7:30; 8:20; 12:23,27; 13:1; 16:32; 17:1
6. the day of Divine judgment (i.e., Jesus' Second Coming) ‒ Matt. 24:36,44; 25:13; Mark 13:32; John 5:25,28)
