SPECIAL TOPIC: SON OF DAVID

David became an endearing symbol of an ideal Israelite King (certainly not sinless). This sense was enhanced by the prophecies of

  1.  Gen. 49:10; Micah 5:2-4; Rev. 5:5, related to Judah
  2.  Isa. 9:7; 11:1,10; 9:7 related to the family of Jesse
  3.  future Davidic King from 2 Sam. 7:16; Jer. 23:5; 33:14-18; Rev. 5:5; 22:16
  4.  this Davidic King also had a priestly aspect, Ps. 110:4; Zech. 3:8-10; 6:9-14; Heb. 5:6,10; 6:20; 7:17

In the NT this royal Messianic theme is continued.
